About the Instrument

Playing Position

Choose between 1st Position and Extended for natural and musical connections between adjacent notes. Extended notes will sound muted and darker in tone since they are played higher on the fingerboard than 1st Position. Extended position should be used to replace open strings (C, G, D, A) with fingered vibrated notes. For live performance, use the Sustain Pedal to toggle between positions in real-time (Kontakt keyboard changes to orange color while Extended position is activated).

Vibrato Speed

Choose between Progressive and Full vibrato. While on the default Progressive setting, notes will begin with no vibrato and slowly increase in vibrato intensity over time. While on Full vibrato, notes will begin with the highest intensity vibrato.

Legato Speed

Use the Legato Speed wheel to control how quickly slurred notes transition. Higher settings allow for faster playing and lower settings allow for slower playing, revealing more of the recorded legato transition. For live performance, we recommend assigning a MIDI CC to control the Legato Speed (in Kontakt, right-click on a knob to Learn a MIDI CC).

Mod Wheel

Use the Mod Wheel to control dynamics.

Reverb

Use the Reverb wheel to control the amount of orchestral hall reverb. If the Reverb wheel is set to 0%, the instrument will revert back to Mono.

Rhea Hosanny Legato Viola - the slightly different viola

I absolutely love the sound of this viola, very emotional! Useful knobs to tweak the sound to your needs. The sound is slightly different from what you might be used to hear, maybe less bright, less aggressive. Even quite slow in the attack which makes it my first choice to create a very emotional melody line that stands out. Well done Simple Sample Audio

Great viola!

Sometimes you just need a little something to carry the melody and this viola is a great example of the instrument, be it rapid fire arpeggios or a nice slurred legato.

Nice viola for specific usage

Where this viola shines at its best is when it's played slowly. The raw recording, the organic vibrato and the legato make this instrument full of character for solo melodic performances. Some samples take a while untill reaching a perfect pitch, so when it's played fast, it may sound little out of tune and I found some annoying click sound in one sample. The sounds take longer than I would like to trigger the release. Again, when played slowly this is not a big deal, but in faster phrases this behaviour make me get lost in the tempo.
Don't get me wrong: it's a good viola and I will probably use with delight, it's just that it's not a workhorse for every situation.

A beautiful and convincing sound.

Having quite a collection of strings, I'd been eyeing this viola that not only sounded outstanding based on the demos, but actually is !! Realistic, well recorded .. what else > easy to use and quite convincing with few options. A flaw, nevertheless, > no polyphony, but I would give more consideration to a good monophonic sound like this than to a an average sounding workhorse, and just use two where needed. An honest deal to make it short!

Great sound for an instrument you don't find commonly as a solo instrument

You won't find solo viola libraries too often (as far as I know) while they can be useful to complete your string palette and add harmony with your solo cello or violin. This library will close the gap nicely for all your string legato needs.
